We are having an extension put on our barn so that we may keep animals inside during rainy or bad weather.
Students from Penta Career Center are helping us with this project.
Check here for new pictures and updates.

January 11, 2008 - First day on the job. The students were out and
marked out the dimensions of the barn extension.
They are a bit hard to see, but they are there. One is by the barn, the
other is the north-west corner. There is also one on the inside of the
fence marking the north-east corner of the barn.
It was very muddy out there today.
Notice the big "duct tape" structure in the picture. No it is not really
duct tape, but I can dream. It is a temporary shelter to keep the
animals out of the weather when it is raining or snowing.
The new barn extension is going to replace the duct-tape barn.

January 15, 2008 - Drilling Holes.
Now that the holes were marked, it was time to drill them with the auger.
All of the holes had to be 36 inches into the ground.
We used a "one man" auger that was rented here in BG. As you can
see from the picture, it sometimes took more than one man to do the
drilling. That was especially true in the sloppy, muddy conditions.
The students were working hard and finished 9 holes the first day and
then the last 6 holes the second day.
January 17, 2008 - Posts are rising.
With the concrete footers set up in all 15 holes, it was time to set the
posts. You can see the first three posts in this picture. One against
the old barn, and two more out to the northwest corner of the extension.
I really like the green light above the barn........it is actually a mercury
light and not green at all. Something funny going on with my camera ?
January 18, 2008 - Another good day.
Another busy day on the barn. More posts set up. We ordered the
"wall package" to be delivered from Carter Lumber. There are a bunch
of boards right there by the barn door, and also a pile sitting in the
driveway. Kind of neat to see the progress happening each day.
February 2, 2008 - Almost all posts ready.
The post are coming along fine. Last week we did not
have any work done because there were open house
activities at Penta.
Lots of cold weather lately, but the kids keep on
working. Pretty soon the walls will be done.
February 10, 2008 - Roof Trussing has begun !!
We got a real mess in the mud here. The pictures speak for themselves. The kids are doing a great job and things are coming
along just fine even though the weather is so rotten. Starting to look like a real barn now. The alpacas look at it everyday
February 14, 2008 - More Roof
Well, the mud is now frozen and it looks
like winter again. Wish the Big Guy
would figure out what he wants to do with
the weather.
The roof trusses are now complete and it
looks like a real barn now.
We are very excited and look each day to
see what progress has been made. It is
very cool .........
Penta rocks !!!!
